Helping less-fortunate kids

Thumbs up to everyone who contributed to the seventh annual FOP Pre-Scoop Cruise-In and Car Show on Aug. 19 in downtown Seymour. That includes those who brought the more than 250 vehicles to display in and around the Walnut Street and Robertson Feed Mill parking lots and those who came out to see those vehicles, participate in raffles and auctions and purchase drinks and ice cream floats. Proceeds from the event benefit the Fraternal Order of Police Donald M. Winn Lodge 108’s Cops and Kids program, which pairs local law enforcement officers with less-fortunate kids in Jackson County for a shopping experience in early December at Walmart Supercenter in Seymour. Fun-raising

Thumbs up to the organizers and volunteers who made this year’s HOPE Medora Goes Pink dinner and dessert auction Aug. 13 at Medora Christian Church a success. A related thumbs up to those who attended the event and bid on the desserts to the tune of $12,441. Overall, the event raised $15,757.36, which will help with the expenses for the HOPE Medora Goes Pink cancer awareness event held on the second Saturday of October each year in Medora. That event has raised $201,700 that has been given to those fighting cancer over the years. The organization was founded in 2010 by Debi Wayman and her daughter, Deven Wayman-Shirley, as way to recognized Debi’s 75-year-old mother, Helen Sipes, who had breast cancer and died after it spread to other areas.

No cents

Thumbs down to those who steal from local stores at self-checkout registers. The use of those registers is based upon trust. Those violating that trust just force retailers to increase prices for everyone who shops at those stores. It doesn’t make sense.

Get a job

I moved here to Seymour 21 years ago . What a beautiful small town, but these people on corners here lately have gotten out of hand. What are we, big city ghetto? It’s taking the sweet beauty out of what I call hometown. Everywhere you go, signs wanting money. Come on, people. Our businesses are dying with no help, and you can’t find a job? All kinds of government help right now especially. Get off your rumps and get rid of your signs and get a job or apply for help and stay off of the corners bothering people. I’m tired of trying to explain it to my grandchildren that most but not all only beg for drugs.
