Mary Jane Brown Gill, 87, passed away on Saturday, July 23 at Autumn Trace in Seymour, Indiana.

Mary Jane was born in Corning, Indiana in Daviess County on May 29, 1935 to Paul and Margaret Colvin Brown. She graduated from Washington Catholic High School in 1953. On August 26, 1957, she married Henry Herr Gill and he survives. They were married for 67 years.

Her life with Henry would find her traveling and living all over the world. Wherever Henry was she was. The early years of marriage had them in Columbus, Mississippi and then onto Miami. When they settled in Chicago she began her long career as a legal secretary at some of the leading law firms in Chicago. She would retire from National Westminster Bank after 10 years in 1983. Then it was off to Rome for Henry’s career. They would return to Crystal Lake, Illinois and they finally ended up in Las Vegas. They moved to Seymour, Indiana earlier this year to be closer to one of their nieces.

To her nieces she was the glamorous, sophisticated aunt with a little bit of sass thrown in. She was always bringing them the most wonderful gifts from far off places. In her spare time she was an accomplished seamstress who would tackle the most mundane mending jobs or create haute couture fashion. In her later life she spent many hours crocheting hats and sweaters for everyone. Up until she was 82, she was at her local Las Vegas health club daily, in the front row of the Zumba class, keeping up with everyone. Or should we say everyone was keeping up with her.

She is survived by her husband, her sister Ann (Mike) Hall, her brothers Ken (Bonnie) Brown and Jerry Brown, and multiple nieces and nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Don and Eddie Brown.

No services are planned at this time.
