Immanuel Ladies Aid 3 met Tuesday at the Seymour church with 20 members present.

Hostesses Ruth Ann Schneider and Denise Siefker served refreshments using fresh flowers for the decor.

Pastor Philip Bloch opened the meeting with prayer, and the chosen hymn of “The Church’s One Foundation” was sung with the reciting of Psalm 67.

Bloch discussed a recent Gallup News Survey concerning the thoughts of people about the Bible. According to this survey, 20 to 25% of the overall population believe the Bible is actually the word of God and is to be taken literally in contrast to 40% with this belief in the 1980s.

Also, 50% of people believe the Bible is the inspired word of God but not all is to be taken literally. An all-time high of 30% this year believe the Bible is a book of fables, history and manmade writings compared to in 1980 when this number was only 10%. Bloch said people’s responsibility as Christians is to study the word so they can share and defend the truth.

A fun time of weird and wonderful facts of the Bible was then conducted.

Vice President Ann Mahan conducted the business meeting. Linda Kamman reported her committee’s suggestions for amending the constitution and bylaws of Ladies Aid. Reports of nursing home visits also were given.

Updates on the arts and crafts show in November were given. Twenty-three vendors are already registered with openings still available. Mary Jan Koop, chairwoman for the luncheon at the event, provided updates.

Discussion was held regarding the group’s plans to attend Dancing with the Seymour Stars in September.

The meeting was closed with the singing of the last verse of the hymn and the Lord’s Prayer.
