Mary Lou (Clark) Cordes passed from this life into the arms of her God and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, July 31, 2022. She was at home surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Cordes enjoyed the vibrant worship, keen fellowship, and the opportunities to serve the various churches she attended through the years. She was a current member of The Point in Seymour.

A 1950 graduate of Brownstown High School, Mary Lou attended Indiana University, and she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. She was an active member of the community, serving in the Psi Iota Xi sorority. She was also a faithful volunteer of a local nursing home by providing dog therapy to residents, a volunteer for Community Provisions, Inc., a pioneer of the Oh Doe’s Kids Club, and an officer of the Cordes Hardware Co., Inc, Seymour. Mary Lou loved children and her many beloved pets.

Born on December 21, 1932, Mary Lou was the daughter of Dr. Roy P. and Mary Lucille Davis Clark, both of whom preceded her in death. On February 6, 1952, she married Charles W. Cordes, and he preceded her in death on June 21, 2011. Upon his graduation and enlistment in the United States Air Force, they settled in Massachusetts. After his service, they resided in Sunset Parkway in Seymour, followed by the countryside of Madden Hill near Seymour, and lastly, on her farm near Cortland.

Survivors include her sons: William R. (Adele) Cordes of Columbus, Daniel L. (Jennifer) Cordes of Brownstown, John A. (Rijne) Cordes of Seymour, Paul G. (Paula) Cordes of Freetown, Matthew K. Cordes, and Frank K. Cordes; her daughter, Rhoda M. Noisat of Seymour; grandchildren: William A. Cordes, Susan (Ryan) Selby, Dustin Cordes, Keida (Donnie) Gill, Jesse Cordes, Mary (Jonathan Hodge) Cordes, Valerie Noisat, Caleb Noisat, Josh (Leighann) Cordes, Jacob Cordes; and great-grandchildren: Allison Cordes, Brianna Cordes, Dylan Cordes, Rhett Cordes, Ian Gill, Liam Gill, Keeleigh Cordes, Malikai Cordes, Aubrey Cordes, Brayden Hodge, Jonathan Hodge, Dawson Hodge, Derek Sanchez-Noisat, Aiden Sanchez-Noisat, Melanie Sanchez-Noisat, Justin Noisat, AnnaLeigh Cordes, and Isaac Cordes.

Mary Lou was also preceded in death by a daughter, Valerie Jean Cordes; and a brother, Dr. R. Joseph Clark.

A Memorial Service for Mary Lou (Clark) Cordes will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at The Point in Seymour with Dr. Steve Green officiating. Friends may call from 6:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at The Point.

Memorials may be given to Red Sky Rescue, Jackson County 4-H Endowment Fund, Community Provisions, Inc., or Amedisys Home Health Care.
