Library announces August programming

The Jackson County Public Library is offering in-person and virtual programs for adults in August.

Information Services Assistant Kathi Linz will demonstrate how to make plarn from recycled grocery bags and how to use it at 4 p.m. Aug. 16 in the Seymour meeting room. Registration is required by Aug. 13.

A Rumpke of Indiana representative will talk about what can be recycled, what happens to recycled items and how everyone can make a difference at 6 p.m. Aug. 23 on Zoom. Contact 812-523-4636 for login information by Aug. 22.

Matt Baker, a financial advisor with Edward Jones of Seymour, plans to discuss taking the steps necessary for retirement at 2 p.m. Aug. 27. Registration is required by Aug. 25.

Programs offered for teens ages 12 to 19 will meet in the Seymour Teen Scene unless otherwise noted.

At 1 p.m. Aug. 8, teens may bring their commander decks and play Magic: The Gathering with other teens at Mana Crypt Mania. They also may drop in during VR Gaming from 2 to 4 p.m. Aug. 13 to play games on the PlayStation VR.

The Teen Advisory Group will meet at 4 p.m. Aug. 15. Potential attendees should get an application to return before future meetings.

Gamers ages 13 to 18 in Seymour, Crothersville and Medora are invited to join the JCPL Teen Discord server for Weeb Night at 4 p.m. Aug. 18.

Seymour teens also are invited to the Scene Reading book discussion at 4 p.m. Aug. 23. The group will discuss “All Is Fair” by Dee Garretson.

Teens in grades 9 to 12 also may sign up for Otter Disc Art at 4 p.m. Aug. 29 to repurpose old CDs into art. Limit eight participants.
