Myra Carlyle Maholm Lewis passed from this life into the presence of her Lord on Tuesday, July 19, 2022. She died peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones. Myra was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, on April 22, 1935, one of two children to Fletcher Carlyle Maholm and the former Nellie LaVonne Shull.

She graduated in 1952 from Shortridge High School, Indianapolis. In 1955 she married Sherman Tony Hill (divorced, deceased), and she is survived by four children: Holly (Mark, deceased) Ripley Hill, Indianapolis; Merrilee (Tony) Tingle, Seymour; Bradley (Tammy) Hill, Mountainburg, Arkansas; and Jonathan (Barbara) Hill, Sandwich, Illinois. Myra has eight grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Her brother Daniel Maholm of Fort Lauderdale, Florida is deceased, and she is survived by niece, Jennifer Maholm (P.Paul) Pappalardo and nephew, Christopher (Diane) Maholm. She is survived by cousins, Jon (Patricia) Bolen of Plymouth, Minnesota, and Shirley (James, deceased) Shull of Huntington, Pennsylvania.

On May 1, 1978, Myra married John M Lewis III. They enjoyed 25 years of marriage until his death on December 24, 2003. John M’s sons are John M Lewis IV and Fred Lewis, both of Seymour.

In 1975, Myra was elected Seymour’s first female City Council member and dubbed herself “Councilma’am”. She was a member of BPO Elks Lodge, former president of Seymour Garden Club, former president of Psi Iota Xi Alpha Beta Chapter, former Elder of the First Presbyterian Church. She worked at Timperman Cadillac, Stoner’s Dress Shop, Tiemeier’s Jewelry, and Greeman Furniture of Seymour.

A memorial reception, abundant with her favorite yellow roses, is scheduled from 11 am to 2 pm, Thursday August 04, 2022, at Voss and Sons Funeral Home 316 North Chestnut St. Seymour, IN 47274.

Family requests memorials be given to the Jackson County Humane Society in care of Voss and Sons Funeral Home.
