The Brownstown Town Council recently approved a no-parking zone for a two-block area of West Bridge Street.

Parking will be prohibited on both sides of that street between Clark and Bolles streets, according to an ordinance that was passed on third reading during Monday night’s council meeting at the town hall.

The ordinance also prohibits overnight parking in the parking lot of the town pool at 715 W. Bridge St.

The provisions of the ordinance call for a penalty of not more than $25 for each violation.

The council also gave tentative approval to a second ordinance that prohibits solicitation and/or the distribution of materials on public streets, alleys and/or roadways. The ordinance, which passed on first reading and requires three readings, excludes sidewalks and does not apply to licensed retail business that operate motor vehicles to facilitate their business on or around public streets, alleys and/or roadways.

Pedestrians found in violation of that ordinance would be subject to a fine of $100 on the first offense. A second or subsequent violation within any one-year period calls for a fine of $500. Each act or attempted act of solicitation and/or distribution of materials or information shall be consider a separate offense.
