William B. “Bill” Bell Jr., 93, formerly of Crothersville, IN, passed away at 9:45 PM, Saturday, June 25, 2022, at Covered Bridge Health Campus in Seymour, IN. Bill was born on October 13, 1928, in Tulsa, Oklahoma to William Burton Bell Sr. and Laura (Pierce) Berry.

Bill was a 1948 Cuba High School graduate. After high school, Bill enlisted in the United States Navy. He was stationed on ships USS Boxer and USS Valley Forge as a Radar Operator during the Korean War. When he was honorably discharged, he went back to Cuba, MO to marry the girl he was sweet on, Mildred (Mullen) Bell on August 16, 1952. She preceded him in death on February 8, 1996.

Bill worked at the Convy Heel, a division of the U.S. Shoe Corporation, in Cuba MO. He was transferred to the U.S. Shoe Crothersville in 1960. After working at U.S. Shoe, he went on to work at the Crothersville Post Office for 25 years and retired in 1989.

Bill was an active member at the First Baptist Church in Crothersville for over 50 years. He enjoyed fishing, working on bicycles, and watching the St. Louis Cardinals. He was known in Crothersville for repairing and selling bicycles. Bill was generous to children in Crothersville who were less fortunate that didn’t have a bicycle.

Bill is survived by his children, Lois Vega of Seymour, IN, Gordon (Marcella) Bell of Seymour, IN, Jan Wheeler of Brownstown, IN, and Susan (Randy) Prine of Seymour, IN, grandchildren, Tara Olds, Ben (Cheryl) Bell, Shawn Wheeler, Kristin (Dave) Pucci, Jeanette Engle, Mandy Peters, Joe Bell, John Bell, Julia (Kris) Snyder, Ashley Vega, Steven Bell, great grandchildren, Elizabeth (Adam) Austin, Dustyn Wheeler, Dylan (Rhianna) Olds, Samantha Wheeler, Jordyn Wheeler, Jacob Wheeler, Benjamin Bell, Katie Bell, Brooklyn Bell, Bryce Peters, Kyla Peters, Jacob Snyder, and Oliver Bell, 2 great-great grandchildren, Isabelle Olds and Keedyn Kestor.

He was preceded in death by 1 son, Larry Bell, 1 grandson, Chris Wheeler, 2 siblings, George “Dub” Bell and Christine “Tenie” Wilson.

A family directed memorial service will be conducted by David Schill and Jeff Mathews at Noon on Saturday, July 9, 2022, with visitation from 11:00 AM until the service time all at the First Baptist Church of Crothersville, 305 E. Howard St., Crothersville, IN 47229. Memorial Donations may be given to the American Cancer Society or the First Baptist Church of Crothersville.
