The Community Foundation of Jackson County recently announced Lillian Kelly was the recipient of the Marc Owen Chandler Memorial Scholarship this year.

Kelly, the daughter of Shannon and Julie Kelly, graduated from Seymour High School on June 5 with a Core 40 academic honors diploma and plans to attend Grace College in the fall to major in elementary and art education.

While attending Seymour High School, Kelly participated in varsity bowling and track and field. Some of her outside activities included youth bowling, church nursery and Sunday school volunteer. She also is a member of the church youth group and a vacation Bible school leader. Kelly is currently working for Child Care Network as a Kids Klub assistant.

Owen, Sam and Myles Chandler, nephews of Marc Chandler, presented the scholarship to Kelly during the honors day program May 20 at Seymour High School.

Skip and Carol Chandler established the scholarship through the Community Foundation in October 1996 in memory of their son. The fund provides scholarships for advanced and/or training to seniors at Seymour.

The fund has steadily grown over the past 26 years thanks to the continuing support of Marc Chandler’s family and friends. To date, 37 students have received assistance with college and technical expenses through the scholarship.

Incoming Seymour High School students interested in applying for the scholarship may go online at cfjacksoncounty.org to fill out an application due no later than Aug. 18.

Anyone may make a gift to the Marc Owen Chandler Memorial Scholarship Fund by contacting the foundation at 812-523-4483. Donations also may be made to the fund and other funds at the foundation by visiting cfjacksoncounty.org.
