A 39-year-old man was arrested Monday on burglary and theft charges in connection with an investigation into the theft of $3,000 in items from a storage unit in Seymour earlier this month, police report.

Travis J. Baughman of Seymour faces three preliminary Level 5 felony charges of burglary and three Level 6 felony charges of theft, according to a news release from Lt. C.J. Foster with the Seymour Police Department.

On June 16, patrol officers investigated a burglary at Storage Express, 1339 W. Tipton St., Foster said. The complainant advised their unit had been broken into about a week prior.

On June 21, after conducting a follow-up investigation, police learned two additional storage units had been broken into and miscellaneous items stolen, Foster said.

At that time, a suspect, later identified as Baughman, also was developed.

During an interview with detectives Monday, Baughman admitted to cutting the locks off of the storage units and taking items, Foster said.

He was booked into the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown at 10:08 a.m. Monday and being held without bond pending his initial hearing in Jackson Circuit Court.
