Clyde Smith, age 78, of Kurtz, passed away on Friday, June 24, 2022, at Norton Hospital, Louisville, Kentucky.

Clyde was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Medora, where he served as Treasurer for many years.

Mr. Smith was a 1962 graduate of Clearspring High School, and he served in the National Guard.

Clyde had a career in the banking business most of his life. He worked at Citizens State Bank, Monroe County Bank, and retired as Vice President from The Peoples Bank. He was also a past board member of the Jackson County Water Utility. He was also a farmer, and he loved farming and raising cattle with his grandson. Clyde loved spending time with his family, especially enjoying family dinners and playing cards with his family members. He also enjoyed eating at local restaurants with friends, deer hunting, fishing, and telling stories about his high school basketball career. Clyde was an avid basketball fan, and he especially loved watching I.U., Indiana Pacers, and Brownstown Braves basketball.

Born on February 29, 1944, at his home in Lincoln County, Kentucky, he was the son of George and Orpha Smith, both of whom preceded him in death. On January 23, 1966, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Medora, he married Mona Lois Wright and she survives in Kurtz.

Survivors also include two daughters: Teresa Michelle (Rex) Meyer of Brownstown, and Paula Lee (Mark) Bonebright of Vallonia: one brother, Carl Smith of Seymour; three sisters: Mary Ann Steinberger of Noblesville, Emma Hanner of Norman, and Glenda Cooper of Seymour; five grandchildren: Nicole (Clay) Ault, Blaine Bonebright, Bailey (Justin) Donnells, Danielle Meyer, and Brooke Meyer; and two great-grandchildren: Allison Ault and Colton Ault.

Besides his parents, Clyde was also preceded in death by two brothers-in-law: Maynard Steinberger and Stephen Hanner.

Funeral services for Clyde Smith will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, with Pastor Martin Keller officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Inc., Brownstown, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at the funeral home.

Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Brownstown.

Memorials may be given to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Medora.
