Churches invite public to two-day unity event

Gathering 2022 is set for Friday and Saturday in Seymour.

Organizer Chris Broughton said the purpose of the free event is to come together with one goal: To equip the saints and call the lost.

During the opening service from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday, there will be praise and worship before Ken Pounders, director of Priority Evangelism, speaks.

Saturday will start with evangelism training from 10 a.m. to noon at Centro de Renovacion Cristiana Inc., 319 East St. Attendees will learn to share the good news of Jesus Christ wherever you are, Broughton said. Pounders has taught this class all over the world.

Drive-thru prayer for anyone who stops by will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Crossroads Community Park, 101 E. Tipton St. A prayer team from northeast Alabama will help train organizers in this ministry.

Street evangelism is planned from 2 to 4 p.m. at Centro de Renovacion Cristiana. Those who complete the evangelism training in the morning will join the evangelism team as they travel to the Bartholomew County Fair in Columbus to apply what they learned about presenting the gospel in a gentle, loving and kind way to everyone, Broughton said.

The event will close with a revival-style church service from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Crossroads Community Park. Pounders will preach, and organizers want as many community churches represented as possible.

Genesis 2:24 Ministries, Priority Evangelism, Seymour Harvest Church, Christ Covenant Church, Centro de Renovacion Cristiana and Cornerstone Community Church have committed to helping with the event and discipling after it.
