BUENOS AIRES – Indiana University women’s basketball head coach Teri Moren helped USA Basketball’s U18 women’s team win a gold medal with a victory over Canada in the final at the FIBA U18 Women’s Championships on Sunday night.

USA defeated Canada 82-77, as Moren served as an assistant for the team, who played in the event in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from June 13 to 19.

For Moren, a Seymour native, this marked her first official stint with USA Basketball after serving as a court coach during the trials in 2021.

Moren tweeted on Sunday, “What an incredible experience with incredible people! I loved every minute with these two strong, smart, kind and funny women (Texas A&M coach Joni Taylor and Old Dominion coach DeLisha Milton-Jones). Thank you USA Basketball for this opportunity.”

Moren isn’t the only Hoosier within the women’s program to have a gold medal now. Senior guard Grace Berger won gold in the 2021 Pan American games, and former player and current team and recruitment coordinator Ali Patberg won one at the 2015 FIBA U19 World Championships.

Moren will be entering her ninth season with the Hoosiers in 2022-23. She has guided the program to four NCAA Tournament appearances and seven consecutive 20-win seasons. Indiana finished last season by tying a program-record 24 wins and advanced to its first Big Ten Tournament championship game in 20 years.

In her eight seasons, Indiana is 172-89 and is the program’s second all-time winningest coach as she has advanced to back-to-back Sweet Sixteens, an Elite Eight appearance in 2021 and a WNIT championship in 2018.

All five starters garnered All-Big Ten honors in 2021-22, and junior forward Mackenzie Holmes and Berger hauled in a combined four All-American honorable mention honors. In addition, Indiana was ranked as high as No. 4 in The Associated Press poll and No. 5 in the WBCA/USA Today coaches poll in 2021-22.

In addition to maintaining the foundation with Berger and Holmes, the Hoosiers brought in some talented recruits and transfers for next season, so Indiana will be expecting another big season this year.
