Two local couples celebrating a combined 120 years of marriage

Joe and Rosalie Girt of North Vernon plan to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. June 18 at 212 South St., North Vernon.

Family and friends are invited to the event, which will include the 50th wedding celebration of their son and his wife, Ben and Vickie Girt, also of North Vernon.

Joe and the former Rosalie Gilham were married Aug. 25, 1952, in Butlerville. Besides Ben, the couple have another son, Mark (Linda) Girt of North Vernon, a daughter, Peggy Stockdale of North Carolina, seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Joe is retired from Arvin Industries, while Rosalie is retired from Muscatatuck State Hospital.

Ben and the former Vickie Hilligoss were married June 3, 1972, in Pendleton. They have two children, Chris (Danielle) Girt of Cookeville, Tennessee, and Stephanie (Rex) Eaton of Kalamazoo, Michigan, and three grandchildren. Ben is retired from Jennings County School Corp. and also taught at Brownstown and coached cross-country. Vickie is a retired paralegal who worked in Columbus.
