Ninth annual youth triathlon coming up

The ninth annual Boys and Girls Club of Seymour Youth Triathlon will start at 8:30 a.m. June 25 at Seymour High School, 1350 W. Second St.

The event is for boys and girls ages 6 to 14. The distances are 100 yards of swimming, 2 miles of biking and a half-mile run for 6- to 10-year-olds, while they are 200 yards, 4 miles and 1 mile, respectively, for 11- to 14-year-olds.

The cost is $35, and cash or checks made payable to BGC Youth Triathlon will be accepted on race day at the registration table. A Google Form is available online at facebook.com/bgcyouthtriathlon to register for the event.

On race day, participants should bring goggles, a towel, a bike helmet and shoes.

Practice days are set for 6 p.m. June 21 and 23 so kids can get a feel for the course where they will swim, bike and run. That will start at the Seymour High School Aquatic Center.

Also, sponsorships are needed for the race. They start at $100 and go up to $1,000 and are tax-deductible. Sponsors are named at the event, on event materials and on the back of the athletes’ T-shirts.
