Ella J. Davis

CHARLESTOWN, IN

Ella J. Neil Davis passed peacefully May 22, 2022. She was born February 25, 1932, to John and Hazel Neil in Charleston, W V. In 1951, after attending Temple University, she became a registered nurse. Wedding bells rang in 1952 for her and James O. Davis. For the next ten years, Louisville, KY became their new home. Jimo and Ella raised five of their six children there. In addition to being a stay-at-home mom, Ella established a children’s church at their home parish of Our Lady of Consolation; a cutting-edge idea for the Catholic Church in 1960. In 1964 Seymour, IN became the “small town” where she and Jimo would have their sixth child and nurture their family. In 1971 a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthesia program in Charleston, WV accepted Ella. Upon graduation, she began practicing at Jackson County Hospital with Drs. Kenneth Bobb and William Blaisdell. Ella enjoyed music, theater and art. She had a leading role as a member of the Brownstown Players and was able to persuade Jimo to join her in a production. Once Jimo and Ella both retired, they settled in Charlestown, IN. When Jimo passed in 2009, they had celebrated 57 years of marriage. She is survived by her six children: Jami Shepherd, Carmel, IN; Rebecca Davis Mathias (John), Omaha, NE; Jim N. Davis (Lyn), Charlestown, IN; Teresa Tatlock, (Rodney) Seymour, IN; Christina O’Grady (Simon), Indianapolis, IN; Anita Schumacher (Scott), Columbus, IN and 14 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
