Tickets for the 11th Dinner on the Bridge to be held at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 6 at the bridge just east of Medora are now available.

The event is sponsored by Friends of the Medora Covered Bridge.

Tickets may be purchased by sending a check for $30 per person to FMCBA, P.O. Box 132, Medora, IN 47260. A self-addressed stamped envelope is helpful but not required.

They also may be purchased at the Jackson County Visitor Center, 100 N. Broadway St., Seymour, and Country Cookin’ of Salem, which is catering the meal.

The meal will feature roast beef and ham, scalloped potatoes, green beans, two kinds of salad, rolls and pie.

The 434-foot bridge, built in 1875 by Joseph J. Daniels of Rockville, was closed to traffic in 1972 but remains open to pedestrians and bicyclists today. The Burr truss design bridge took nine months to build. Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2007, the bridge was renovated in 2011.

It’s touted as the longest historic covered bridge in the country at 461 feet long and spans the East Fork White River parallel to State Road 235. Visitors from all 50 states and many countries around the world have visited it. The bridge draws an estimated 20,000 visitors each year.
