June book discussions set at library

Jackson County Public Library book discussion groups in Seymour and Crothersville plan to gather in person to discuss book themes, writing styles, characters and more in June.

Books are available to check out at the library checkout desks or may be available digitally through OverDrive/Libby or hoopla. Program location and/or cancellation may depend on county COVID-19 status.

Start out the season with a new summer-only book club, Beach Reads and Cocktails, which will meet on the first Thursday of each summer month. At 7 p.m. Thursday, the group will discuss “The Guncle” by Steven Rowley at Vat & Barrel, 212 E. Second St., Seymour. Everyone attending should bring money for a drink or snack. Registration is requested online or at checkout.

The Tuesday Night Book Club will discuss its monthly book at 7 p.m. June 14 at San Marcos Mexican Restaurant, 501 N. Ewing St., Seymour. Information Services Manager Janet Hensen will lead the review of “The Sweetness of Water” by Nathan Harris. Everyone attending should bring money if they plan to eat. Sign up for the program when getting the book at the checkout desk.

The book discussion group at the Crothersville Library, which meets on the third Wednesday of each month, will meet in the meeting room and share thoughts on “A Slow Fire Burning” by Paula Hawkins at 6 p.m. June 15. Crothersville Coordinator Cindy Huckleberry will lead the discussion. The group is open to adults, and there is no attendance requirement.

Fantastic Fiction will meet in the meeting room of the Seymour Library, 303 W. Second St., Seymour, to discuss “We Begin at the End” by Chris Whitaker at 11 a.m. June 17. Led by circulation department staff, this group meets on the third Friday of each month.

Teens are invited to Scene Reading, a group for readers in grades 6 to 12. The group will meet in the Seymour Library Teen Scene at 4 p.m. June 28. Teen Specialist Hillary Pacheco will lead the discussion of “Fable” by Adrienne Young.
