Jackson County Retired Teachers met Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Seymour.

President Bonnie Koontz welcomed the members and led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. The minutes of the previous meeting and the treasurer’s report were approved.

Koontz then welcomed new member Deb Schwartz, who retired from Brownstown Central Community School Corp. after 19 years.

Koontz also announced Donna Sullivan was retiring as membership chairwoman after 18 years and Terrye Davidson will be the new chairwoman.

Members were reminded to keep a record of their volunteer hours and thanked for their donations of personal items for Anchor House Family Assistance Center and Pantry in Seymour, which is the local group’s project.

A moment of silence was observed for the passing of Rachel Galloway.

Ruth Beesley provided the centerpiece decorations of potted plants, which were given as door prizes.

Leon Seitz gave the invocation, and lunch was served by the women of the church.

Following lunch, the group was entertained by the Schulhaus 4+3 band, composed of 10 members. Ron Duncan gave the commentary for the group, and Keith Stam was soloist for several numbers in German and English.

The next meeting will be Sept. 15 at First United Methodist Church.
