Brownstown advances in sectionals

The Brownstown tennis team defeated Austin 3-2 on Wednesday night in the first round of sectionals.

Leah Pottschmidt scored a 6-3, 6-2 win at three singles, the one doubles team of Hannah Hackman and Chelsea Luedeman won 6-1, 6-3, and the two doubles team of Bella Brown and Kaitlyn Williams won 6-0, 6-0.

Austin’s points came at one and two singles.

With the win, Brownstown advances to the semifinals Thursday night to take on Scottsburg at Seymour High School at 4:45 p.m. The other semifinal match is Seymour against Trinity Lutheran, and the championship match will take place on Friday at SHS.

Softball

Brownstown edges out Charlestown

The Brownstown Central softball team had an impressive win at Charlestown on Tuesday night, coming back home with a 6-5 victory.

The Braves put up two in the third, Charlestown regained the lead with three runs in the fourth and then Brownstown took it back with four runs in the fifth. Charlestown made a late comeback, putting up two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but the Braves were able to hold them off just enough to get the one-run victory.

Emily Singleton and Erin Singleton both led Brownstown with three hits apiece, Zoe Stuckwisch had two hits and Kelsey Schneider and Kyndle Huddleston both had one hit.

Erin Singleton and Stuckwisch had two RBI each, and Emily Singleton had one RBI.

Schneider pitched all seven innings in the circle, allowing five hits and five runs and striking out nine batters. Schneider threw 122 pitches, and 72 of those were strikes.

The Braves will be at Mitchell today and have a rescheduled game Saturday at home against Trinity Lutheran for Senior Day.

Golf

Crothersville competes at South Central

The Crothersville boys golf team play against South Central and Henryville on Wednesday afternoon.

Matthew Clouse shot a 68 and Andrew Stainbrook shot a 69. Since Crothersville only has two golfers, the Tigers don’t account for a team score.

South Central edged Henryville in 262-266 in the team scores.

The Tigers will be competing in the Southern Athletic Conference match this Saturday at Champions Pointe Golf Course at 12 p.m.
