A Jackson County man faces a Level 5 felony charge of battery with a deadly weapon after a stabbing reported late Tuesday night in Seymour.

Jacob Evan Easley, 26, of Crothersville was booked into the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown on that charge at 12:35 a.m. Wednesday.

The male who received a stab wound to the upper torso area during the incident reported at 8:22 p.m. Tuesday was listed in stable condition Wednesday at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis, according to a news release from Seymour Police Department Lt. C.J. Foster.

Foster said Easley’s arrest occurred after officers responded to a report of a stabbing in the 200 block of East 11th Street. When they arrived in the area, officers reported seeing blood in the street, which led to a nearby residence.

Officers were able to secure the scene, and personnel with Jackson County Emergency Medical Services and Seymour Fire Department responded to the scene to provide medical treatment for the victim. The victim was taken to the helipad at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour and flown to St. Vincent Hospital by St. Vincent StatFlight.

Investigators with the Seymour Police Department also were called to the scene. They conducted numerous interviews and obtained a Jackson Circuit Court search warrant to process the crime scene and collect evidence.

Easley is being held without bond pending his initial court appearance. A Level 5 felony carries a penalty upon conviction of one to six years in prison.
