FREETOWN

Elva (Cheek) Fleetwood, age 91, a native of Laurel County, Kentucky and a resident of Freetown, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at Hoosier Christian Village in Brownstown, Indiana. She was born on November 17, 1930 to the late Thomas Cheek and the late Lucy (Cheek) Cheek. Elva was a Baptist by faith and longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church in Seymour, Indiana and employed many years by Schneck Medical Center in Administration. She enjoyed very much sewing and quilting. “Mamaw”, as many knew her by, will forever be remembered as the most loving, caring, compassionate, giving and wise woman that she was. Her love for people, animals and the outdoors was immeasurable. She never knew a stranger and would anyone in need, always putting others needs ahead of her own. As her favorite Bible verse reads in Hebrews 13;2, Be not forgetful to entertain strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unaware. The first thing anyone heard the minute that they walked through her door was, “Would you like something to eat?” The family was blessed to have such a wonderful mother for so many ears and will always remember her advice when she would tell us, “Don’t sweat the small stuff because what is meant to be, will be”. The family truly believes that when she was greeted into Heaven, their Dad said “What took you so long?”

She is survived by her two daughters, Theresa Herthal of New Salisbury, Indiana and Angela Fleetwood of Castle Rock, Colorado. Nine grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. Two very loved nieces that have done so much for her over the years, Brenda Cremeens and Essie Richie.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of over 44 years, the late Leston Fleetwood, one son, Tom Fleetwood, one daughter, Margie Reynolds, one brother, Henly Cheek and two sisters, Bea Ferrell and Belva Davis. Also one great grandson, Blake Henson.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM at Christensen Family Funeral Home. A funeral procession will depart at 2:15 PM for a graveside service to begin at 2:45 at Riverview Cemetery with Pastor Jim Hudson officiating.

Services will be live streamed on the Christensen Family Funeral Home Facebook page for those who are unable to attend.
