Summer learning program begins May 31 at library

The Jackson County Public Library’s Oceans of Possibilities summer learning program will start May 31 and run through Aug. 1 at the Seymour, Crothersville and Medora libraries and on the Discovery Bus.

The program is free and open to all ages, newborn through adult.

Participants may sign up online at home or at the library at myjclibrary.readsquared.com or download the Readsquared app available for Android and IOS. All participants registering online are automatically entered in a drawing for a chance to win an LED jellyfish lamp.

Participants can earn prizes at 300, 600 and 900 points. Up to five grand prize entry slips can be earned for additional reading. Grand prizes at each location this year are a one-year family membership to the Indianapolis Zoo or a poolside/beach bundle, which includes a $25 Walmart gift card.

Lola Snyder, head of youth services for the library, said points are accumulated based on how many minutes a person spends reading.

Much of the learning program is similar to previous years, Snyder said. The main difference is individual prizes will be given away again.

The library gave out communitywide prizes last year based on reading minutes accumulated as a community. Prizes included Nintendo Switches and Rokus that library patrons could check out if enough points were earned as a community.

Snyder said all of the summer programming will be offered in person this year.

The summer learning program is made possible through financial donations from the following sponsors: AES Automotive Equipment Specialist, Aisin Drivetrain Inc., Beatty Insurance Inc., Bode Electric, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 655, Grindlay and Grindlay PC, Indiana American Water, Jackson County Co-op Credit Union, Jackson County Dental, Jackson Masonic Lodge 146, Klaes Chiropractic Clinic, Klaes Image Productions, Knights of Columbus Council 1252, Lorenzo Bevers Braman and Connell, Psi Iota Xi Alpha Beta chapter, Schneck Medical Center, Seymour Noon Lions Club, Seymour Pediatrics, Skaggs Builders and State Bank of Medora.
