Braves drop game to Red Devils

The Brownstown Central softball team suffered a 7-4 loss at Jeffersonville on Saturday morning.

The Braves led 2-1 after the first inning and 4-1 after the fourth inning, but the Red Devils put up four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and two more in the bottom of the sixth to secure the win.

Emily Singleton and Rylee May each had two hits to lead the team, and May hit her fifth home run of the season. Zoe Stuckwisch, Emily Dillman, Brooke Meahl and Erin Singleton each had one hit.

May had two RBI, while Erin Singleton had one.

Rylin Huddleston pitched in the circle for the Braves, striking out four batters, and Kelsey Schneider came in relief and had one strikeout.

The Braves will be back in action today against Columbus North.

Golf

Owls play at Cascades

The Seymour boys golf team played at Cascades Golf Course on Saturday afternoon in the 32nd annual Bloomington North Invitational.

The Owls shot a team score of 354 to place ninth out of 15 teams. Center Grove won the invite with a score of 311.

The top three individuals in the invite were Luke Beetz (Center Grove) with a 72, Luke Schneider (Columbus North) with a 73 and Gabe Lamb (Floyd Central) with a 74.

Seymour will host two Hoosier Hills Conference foes in Jennings County and Floyd Central on Tuesday at Shadowood Golf Course.

Baseball

Trinity falls to Springs Valley

The Trinity Lutheran baseball team suffered a 9-1 loss on the road at Springs Valley on Saturday morning in the first game of a doubleheader.

Levi Pottschmidt had the Cougars’ lone hit and scored their run. Peyton Pollert pitched and had five strikeouts, and Chase Bode pitched the final 2.2 innings and had two strikeouts.

The Cougars followed that up with getting some more runs on the board in the second game, but Springs Valley still came away with an 8-4 victory.

Pottschmidt, Sage Broughton, Bode and Luke Coomler all had hits in the second game. Nathan Voelker, Broughton and Andrew Bell all had RBI, and Pottschmidt, Darren Maxie, Bode and Coomler all scored runs.

Kowan Gross pitched 3.2 innings, while Voelker pitched the final 2.1.

The Cougars will look to bounce back on Tuesday at home against Salem.
