Braves compete at Big Blue Relays

The Brownstown boys and girls track and field teams were at Jennings County High School on Thursday night to compete in the Big Blue Relays against the Panthers, Bedford North Lawrence and Madison.

The Brownstown girls placed fourth with 87 team points and the boys placed third with 77 team points. BNL won the girls meet while Jennings County won the boys.

The following were top five finishers for the Braves: For the boys, Caleb Cummings was third in the 100 (11.82), Chance Ratliff was fourth in the 3200 (10:52.53) while Traven Wellman was fifth in the two mile (11:24.50), Isiaah Engle was third in the 110 hurdles (16.86), Brayden Millick was third in the discus (113-0) and fourth in the shot put (39-7.75), and Ryan Branaman was fifth in the shot put (38-6.75).

For the girls, Paige McKain won the 3200 in 12:02.89, Camryn Thompson was second in the 100 hurdles (17.87), Jazz Yeadon was third in long jump (15-5), Tori Lokey was fifth in the pole vault (6-6), Taylor Loudermilk was fourth in discus (85-9), Zori Otting was fifth in discus (81-0) and Addie Shelton won the shot put with a throw of 32-4.75.

The girls track team will have its Mid-Southern Conference meet on Tuesday at Corydon Central and the boys will have theirs on Thursday at Corydon as well.

Tennis

Seymour takes on ranked Franklin

The Seymour tennis team took on No. 11-ranked Franklin Community on Friday at Tipton Lakes Athletic Club in Columbus.

The Owls suffered a 5-0 defeat to Franklin.

Jessica Hougland played one singles for Seymour, Addison Hunsley two singles and Ava Sunbury three singles. Brooke Schafstall and Madalyn Baurle played one doubles and Elise Hartung and Caroline Thompson played two doubles. Hartung and Thompson lost their match in a three-set tiebreaker.

Seymour is now 12-2 on the season. Both the Owls’ losses have come from top-ranked teams.

The Owls will take on Columbus East on Monday at home as part of the Hoosier Hills Conference tournament.
