Owls, Braves play at Otis Park

The Seymour and Brownstown Central golf teams played at Otis Park Golf Course on Saturday for the Bedford North Lawrence Invitational.

Seymour placed fifth with a score of 345, and Brownstown placed seventh with a score of 355. Jasper won the invite with a 314.

Leading the way for Seymour was Ty Stuckwisch with an 83. Noah Surface and Andon Self each shot an 87, and Oliver Kardos shot an 88.

For the Braves, Elix Preston was the top man with an 84, Chandler Stahl shot an 88, Connor Gwin a 90 and Matthew Reedy a 93.

Seymour will be home today at Shadowood against Columbus East and New Albany, while Brownstown will be at Elks Country Club against Jeffersonville.

Softball

Cougars split the day

The Trinity Lutheran softball team competed in the New Albany Invitational on Saturday afternoon, and the Cougars came away with a 1-1 split in their two games.

In the first game, Trinity was defeated by Lanesville 9-0. Bailey Tabeling, Kamzi Gross and Olivia Cain were the three Cougars to get a hit in the game. Grace Lance pitched all seven innings, and Ally Russell reached base via a walk.

In the second game, Trinity bounced back, defeating Henryville 6-4. The game was tied going into the seventh inning before the Cougars added two more runs and sealed the victory.

Tabeling and Gross each had two hits in the game, and Lance, Russell, Cain, Samantha Enzinger, Dianna Munoz and Amanda Fink all had one hit. Cain had two RBI to lead Trinity, while Russell and Enzinger each had one RBI.

Gross pitched all seven innings, throwing 90 pitches and striking out five batters.

The Cougars are now 8-5 this season and will play at home later today against Edinburgh.

Baseball

Trinity loses doubleheader

The Trinity Lutheran baseball team played a doubleheader at Indianapolis Lutheran on Saturday afternoon, and the Cougars’ bats just couldn’t get going.

Trinity didn’t score a run in either game, losing the first game 18-0 and the second game 10-0.

This game a day after the Cougars blanked Brown County 11-0 at home on Friday night.

With the two losses, Trinity is now 2-13 on the season and will host Seymour later today at 5 p.m. The Owls defeated the Cougars on opening day earlier this season.
