SEYMOUR

Janice Carol (Jan) Toborg, 87, of Seymour, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home on April 22, 2022, surrounded by family. She was born in 1934, to the late Emmett Sterling and Mabel (Pollert) Sterling. On September 13, 1953, Janice married the love of her life, William (Bill) Toborg and remained married for 67 years until his passing July 2020.

Janice enjoyed attending church at Redeemer Lutheran with her husband and other family members. Janice and Bill could also be seen regularly on the golf course while they were able. She spent many years tutoring students at Redding Elementary School. She also was employed at Arvins, JCPenney and the Seymour Tribune. She enjoyed reading, especially Amish love stories. And between episodes of “The Waltons”, “Little House On the Prairie” or Hallmark Channel movies, you will find her bird-watching in her backyard. Jan had a fondness for Golden Retrievers which began early in life, and she had several throughout her life. But above all, she loved her family and dedicated her life to them. Jan could always be found attending concerts, confirmations, graduations, basketball games, softball games, weddings, showers, cross country meets, lunches, picnics and family reunions. Neither the doors to her house nor the doors to her kitchen cabinets were ever closed. She welcomed all and always wanted to feed them … except for her Cadbury Cream Eggs or Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups … at any hour.

She is survived by her children; Jennifer Day, Julie Calandro, John Toborg, JoBeth (Gerald) Morrow; her six grandchildren; Nathan Ray, Jonathan Ray, Andy Dorsett, Daniel Dorsett, Abigail Ambler, and Cooper Morrow; her eight great-grandchildren, two soon-to-be-born great grand-baby girls Ambler and Morrow and two great great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband William (Bill) Toborg, her parents; Emmett Sterling and Mabel (Pollert) Sterling; brother; Reginald (Dean) Sterling; sisters; Marlene (Mitzi) Wienhorst and Sara Kay Flanders; son in law; Gary Calandro.
