Braves walk it off to beat Salem

The Brownstown baseball team had a thrilling Mid-Southern Conference win over Salem on Monday night at home.

The Lions scored one run in the top of the first inning, but that was the final time Salem would have someone cross home plate for the day. Trent Lowery pitched the first five innings for Brownstown, and Ethan Davis came in to pitch the final two.

Head coach Duane Higgs said Davis did a nice job getting Brownstown out of trouble when he first came into the game.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Brownstown still trailed 1-0. Deven Cummings and Ethan Garland both got on base early in the inning, and then Jake Pauley put the ball in play, and after an error from the Salem second baseman, the Braves scored one to tie the ball game.

Cristos McCormick then came up to the plate and walked it off for the Braves, hitting an RBI double that scored Garland and would’ve scored Pauley if the game wasn’t already decided once Garland crossed home plate.

With the win, Brownstown improves to 6-4 on the season and will play at Austin on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
