The Easter bunny hopped her way across Seymour and surrounding communities this week spreading joy wherever she could find kids of any age.
Also known as Heather Scott, the Easter bunny visited local schools, medical offices, law firms, city hall, restaurants, the fire station, other businesses and anywhere she could find people in need of an Easter egg filled with candy.
“Anybody I see, I give them an egg,” Scott said shortly after passing out some Easter eggs to a few people she found sitting on a bench at Chestnut and Second streets on Tuesday afternoon.
“It has been horrible the last couple of years,” the Brownstown woman said. “There hasn’t been any cheer or joy. I’m not doing this because I want publicity. I am doing this because I want to see people smile. This town needs it. A lot of towns need.”
She added there is a lot of hatred in the world these days and a lot of people with a sour outlook on life.
“Our world is in need of very many people with happiness, and I want to bring joy to our community,” Scott said. “I’m glad I put smiles on people’s faces today.”
Scott said she took her own money and had a lot time and energy invested in purchasing eggs and coloring books and spending the better part of this week going all over the community meeting people.
“Nobody has given me anything,” she said. “I love kids, and I love people.”
Scott said many places she visited were very welcoming, and many people wanted the chance to have their photo taken with the Easter bunny.
“I want to try to make a difference and show people that there are people that are good out there just because they are good people,” she said.
In one case, the Easter bunny went far and above its normal duties.
“I saw this young man had a Tony Stewart jacket on, and he told me that was his favorite driver,” Scott said.
She later went and got a Tony Stewart stuffed bear that she had been carrying around for a couple of months and gave it to him.
“The expression on his face was speechless,” she said. “He was very appreciative and gave me a big hug with a smile on his face.”
Jennifer Sloan, who is friends with Scott, served as the Easter bunny’s assistant as she hopped around town.
Sloan said it is not unusual for Scott to help the community in any way she can.
“She also helps out at Christmas,” Sloan said. “She gives meals away. She’s a giving and good person. And she doesn’t want anything.
