Unused, unwanted medications accepted at event

The Jackson County Health Department encourages people to include items in their medicine cabinet when they do their spring cleaning.

Drug Drop Day is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 30 in the parking lot at the health department, 801 W. Second St., Seymour.

Too often, unused over-the-counter medications and prescription drugs find their way into the wrong hands, and that’s dangerous and often tragic.

Any opioid-containing medications are of great concern and need to be disposed of properly, but any medication can be abused and dangerous if not used correctly.

Some common over-the-counter medications people might want to dispose of include Tylenol, dextromethorphan (Nyquil), diphenhydramine (Benadryl), pseudoephedrine (Sudafed), loperamide (Imodium A-D), diet or caffeine pills and unused, unwanted prescribed medications.

These medications will be accepted during the event, but no syringes will be taken. This is an anonymous event, and no questions will be asked.
