Clean Our County project coming up Earth Day weekend

Jackson County is a beautiful place that many people and a variety of wildlife call home.

A Brownstown woman is making an effort to preserve that beauty and keep the county clean.

Delaney Davidson has created the Clean Our County project and is asking the community to join her in picking up litter on the sides of the roads and work toward a cleaner environment.

Clean Our County participants will first plan to gather on Earth Day weekend, April 22 and 23, to pick up roadside litter throughout the county, Davidson said.

“Gray Dumpster Rental, a local business in the community, is donating a dumpster to the cause and the ultimate goal is to fill the dumpster and clean our county so we may enjoy its beauty to the fullest,” Davidson said.

“Shawn Malone has been so kind to let me set the dumpster at his business, The Brooklyn Pizza Co. and The Seymour Brewing Co., 753 W. Second St., Seymour, which is a central location in Jackson County and perfect for those who want to participate,” she said.

After they’re done with the cleanup, volunteers may go inside Brooklyn Pizza, where Malone will be offering a special ticket price for an upcoming show taking place at his establishment. The show will feature three members of the Hyryder band.

“For those who would like to meet up beforehand and discuss areas that need attention, we will plan to meet at Seymour Brewing Co. and Brooklyn Pizza Co. at noon April 23,” Davidson said. “I will have trash bags and gloves to give out there as well, so anyone interested in being a part, let me know and help spread the word.”

For those who know areas of the county where they would like to pick up, Davidson said they can do that, too. Not everyone has to use the dumpster that’s being donated to be a part of this event.

“Participants can post in the public Facebook group I’ve created, Clean Our County, or use the hashtag #cleanourcounty so we can all see the progress we’ve made together,” she said. “’Love this place, leave no trace’ — our county’s motto for 2022.’”
