The Trinity Lutheran softball team continues its hot start to the season as the Cougars defeated Southwestern (Hanover) 7-2 in their home-opener.

Grace Lance was on the mound once again after throwing a no-hitter on Tuesday. She pitched all seven innings, allowed five hits for two runs and struck out four.

Ally Russell led Trinity with three hits on the night, followed by Madison Keith with two, Olivia Cain with two, Morgan Brewer with two and Bailey Tabeling with one.

Keith, Russell, Brewer, Samantha Enzinger and Amanda Fink all had 1 RBI. Keith’s was a homerun, which marks the first homer of the year for Trinity.

It was 1-1 at the end of the first inning, but then Trinity scored four unanswered before adding two more insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth.

The Cougars are now 2-0 this season and will be at home again tonight against Jac-Cen-Del at 5:30 p.m.

Braves blank Panthers

The Brownstown softball team improved to 2-0 on Thursday night as the Braves defeated Jennings County 5-0 at home.

Brownstown scored one in the first inning and four in the fourth inning and out-hit Jennings County 8-1 en route to victory.

Kelsey Schneider pitched all seven innings for the Braves, allowing just one hit and three walks while striking out eight batters.

Schneider also had two hits on the night, and so did Emily Singleton and Zoe Stuckwisch. Kyndle Huddleston and Brooke Meahl each had one hit. Singleton also drove in three RBI for Brownstown while Meahl and Kinzee Dean each had one.

The Braves are now 2-0 on the season and will next play at home on Monday against Bedford North Lawrence.

Braves roll in opener

The Brownstown baseball team kicked off its 2022 season the right way with a 12-0 victory over South Decatur.

Ethan Davis was stellar on the mound, pitching four innings, allowing no hits and striking out eight batters. He only walked one as well. Ethan Garland came in to finish the game in the fifth inning, and he also allowed no hits, walked one and struck out two.

Ethan Fultz led the Braves with three hits, Levi Stahl had two, Trent Lowery had two, and Jake Pauley, Cristos McCormick, Chick Tiemeyer and Garland all had one hit.

Fultz and Stahl each had 3 RBI, Lowery had 2 RBI and McCormick, Cole Darlage and Garland all had 1 RBI.

The Braves are now 1-0 this season and will next play on Monday when they host Seymour for a cross-county matchup at 5:30 p.m.

Tigers postpone game

The Crothersville baseball team postponed its game last night against Borden due to field conditions.

The Tigers will open their 2022 season tonight against Borden at 5 p.m.
