Third fatality recorded in county in 3 days

A Lawrence County woman died Monday evening when she was thrown from her motorcycle on U.S. 50 in the western part of Jackson County.

Cali Moriarty, 24, of Springville became the third motorist to lose their life in separate incidents since late Sunday night in Jackson County.

Moriarty died when the 2009 Yamaha she was driving westbound in the 8000 block of U.S. 50 traveled off of the north side of the road just past County Road 790W, according to a news release from Jackson County Sheriff Rick Meyer.

He said Moriarty sustained fatal injuries when she was ejected from the motorcycle after the wreck, reported at about 5:50 p.m. She was pronounced dead at the scene by an official with the Jackson County Coroner’s Office.

Meyer said no other vehicle was involved in the crash, and there were no other contributing circumstances.

Jackson County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Ben Rudolph and Officer Aaron Wilkins investigated the wreck with the assistance of Brownstown Police Department Detective Jac Sanders and Officer Ryan Cherry. Personnel with Jackson County Emergency Medical Services and Carr Township Volunteer Fire Department also provided assistance at the scene.

Vicky J. Pittman, 63, of Brownstown died after she was ejected from her vehicle after it left the road in the 8000 block of West Tipton Street in Seymour and flipped at least once. That crash was reported to Seymour police at about 9:30 a.m. Monday.

Erica J. Jimenez, 35, of Indianapolis died at about 11 p.m. Sunday when she was struck by another vehicle while standing outside her disabled vehicle on Interstate 65 near Seymour, according to a report from the Indiana State Police Versailles Post.
