Thrive Alliance sets session for potential volunteer advocate program

Thrive Alliance is holding an informational session via Zoom at 11 a.m. March 22 for those who may be interested in serving in the Volunteer Advocates for Seniors and Incapacitated Adults program.

The program recruits, trains and supervises volunteers to provide support and advocacy to those who are unable to care for themselves. Volunteer advocates enhance an individual’s quality of life by making decisions on that person’s behalf that reflect as much as possible the individual’s own choices and preferences.

Volunteers maintain regular contact with an adult who is incapacitated. That will allow the volunteer to attend and participate in care planning conferences, health care decisions and take steps to ensure services are being provided in the most appropriate manner.

VASIA volunteer requirements include having an interest in helping others, a life or work experience with an older or disabled adult and the ability to exercise sound decision-making. They also must be 21.

For information or to reserve a spot in the session, email [email protected] or call 812-372-6918. Sign-in information for the session will be provided when interested individuals sign up.

Thrive Alliance is Indiana’s Agency on Aging for Bartholomew, Brown, Decatur, Jackson and Jennings counties.
