Richard G. “Dick” Cornett, 84, of Crothersville, IN, passed away at his home at 4:12 PM on Thursday, February 24, 2022. Dick was born on Sunday, May 9th, 1937 in Hot Spot, KY to Clifton and Drinda (Caudill) Cornett. On May 17, 1975, Dick married Carolyn “Janie” Reynolds in Crothersville, IN in her mother’s (Elsie Reynolds) backyard. Dick worked at Cummins, as an electrician at H.O. Canfield and Holm Industries, and then retired in 1999. Dick was known as being quite the prankster, a wonderful storyteller, a master woodworker, and had a hand in building the wooden train that sits in the middle of the Jackson County Fairground. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening, crafts, and being outdoors. He loved being with his grandkids and his dog Brandy that he had for 17 1/2 years who preceded him in death. Dick is survived by his wife of 46 years, Carolyn “Janie” Cornett of Crothersville, IN, his children, Richard (Kay) Cornett of North Vernon, IN, Cynthia Drake of Hayden, IN, Steven Cornett of Summerset, KY, Timothy (Shannon) Cornett of North Vernon, IN, Stacey (Mellany) Solsberry of Warrensburg, MO, Robert (Pam) Cornett of Crothersville, IN, 23 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, 2 great-great granddaughters, 1 brother, David (Sue) Cornett of Jenkins, KY, 2 sisters, Susie (Larry) Williams of Jenkins, KY, and Martha Coates of Uz, KY. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, Sophia Hogg, Chelsea Daughtery, and Maxine Sexton, 6 brothers, Eugene, Ralph, Kenis, Stan, Paul, and Phillip Cornett, 1 daughter, Christine Cummings, 3 grandchildren, Matthew Cornett, Andrew Cornett, and Benjamin Gerbig, 2 great granddaughters, Melody Henthron and Kathy K. Jankura. Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Benjamin Robinson on Tuesday, March 1st, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Adams Family Funeral Homes &Crematory in Crothersville, IN with a burial to follow at Crothersville Cemetery. Family and friends may visit on Monday, February 28th, 2022 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Tuesday, March 1st, 2022 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM, all at Adams Family Funeral Homes &Crematory in Crothersville, IN. Memorial donations in honor of Dick may be made to Jackson Co. Humane Society or Crothersville Cemetery.
