Spay/neuter clinic coming to Medora

A Public Vet cat spay/neuter clinic is set for 8:30 a.m. March 5 at the Carr Township Conservation Club, 7709 W. County Road 350S, Medora.

The cost of the surgery is $90, which includes a medical exam, all surgery costs (including pre-op and post-op pain medication), any essential services ordered by the attending surgeon and access to the surgeon by phone for three days after surgery. Only cash or money order will be accepted for payment.

Other services will come at an additional cost: Deworming (full spectrum $20), ear mite treatment ($15), cat vaccine FVRCP-LK ($35), nail trim ($10), testing for FELV/FIV ($30), flea treatment ($15 for a month or $30 for three months), one-year rabies vaccine ($15) and microchip ($30).

If you would like to bring a cat, sign up online at pub.vet/where-well-be. Check-in from your vehicle will take an hour of your time. You will be given a time to return to pick up your animal later the same day. Discharge will be before 7 p.m. No cats will stay overnight.

The day before the surgery, the cat should not have any food after 9 p.m., but water is fine. If it’s under 3 months old, you can give it no more than 20 pieces of dry food the morning of the surgery.

The day of the surgery, bring your cat and two clean towels in a clean carrier. Cats must be in separate carriers. You can put up to two cats in a carrier as long as it’s large enough for them to lie down comfortably next to each other. Do not put any food, water or litter in the carrier. If you can’t get a carrier, cardboard carriers will be available for $10.

Feral cats must be in a live trap and confirmed feral by staff to qualify for subsidized spay/neuter service.

Tattooing is a mandatory part of this service. All animals that come to the Neuter Scooter are tattooed “PV” in the left ear, and the females also are tattooed on the belly. If your pet is lost, it has a much better chance if it is spayed or neutered. If your cat is found by someone else and taken to be spayed, the doctor’s time is not wasted and the cat is not put through a redundant surgery.
