Indiana Department of Transportation contractor Dave O’Mara Contractor Inc. plans to begin work on or after Tuesday on a $3 million bridge replacement project on U.S. 50 over Six Mile Creek in Jennings County.

The bridge is located 5.64 miles east of U.S. 31 near Hayden.

Construction will be completed in two phases. In early March, traffic will shift to the north side of the bridge while construction takes place on the south side. Once the south side is complete, traffic will shift to the newly constructed side of the bridge so work can continue on the north side.

One lane of U.S. 50 will remain open in each direction, but daytime lane closures and flagging are possible. Motorists should pay attention to advance warning signage prior to the bridge. Additional traffic impacts include closure of Washington Street on or after March 10 due to its close proximity to the project.

The contract was awarded in January to Dave O’Mara Contractor Inc. with a completion date of Nov. 30.

INDOT reminds drivers to use extra caution, avoid distractions and consider worker safety when traveling through an active work zone. A reduced speed limit of 45 mph will be in place for the duration of the project. All work is weather-dependent, and schedules are subject to change.
