Recognizing good deed doers
Thumbs up to everyone who went the extra mile to check on their neighbors during the recent winter storm. The same for those helped out by clearing their neighbors’ driveways and sidewalks of snow and ice or helped those getting stuck on ice- and snow-covered streets and roads. It’s always good that good deed doers aren’t hard to find.
Off to state
Thumbs up to the Seymour FFA novice parliamentary procedure team for advancing to the state contest on Saturday at Lebanon High School. The team, which consists of Aubri Engle, Reann Hons, Addie Kinworthy, Jayden Matlock, Audrey Newkirk, Emmy Otte and Gavin Wessel, earned a berth at the state contest by placing first at the section contest at Madison High School. The team also won the district contest at Brownstown Central High School.
Laying it on the line
Thumbs up to the Jackson County residents who were willing to throw their hats in the ring for the May 3 primary election. It seems fewer and fewer people are willing to so do anymore, so those who do deserve a big “thank you.”
Solid gold
Thumbs up to the members of the Seymour Middle School seventh and eighth grade bands who received gold ratings in the Indiana State School Music Association Solo and Ensemble Contest on Jan. 29 at Columbus East High School.
For seventh grade, those who earned gold ratings in the solo contest were Kayelee Jackson, Noemi Sebastian, Vivian Newkirk, Macey Moss, Cash McNeely, Oliver Lanam, Cohen Tedrow, Kayla Martinez and Olivia Wilp, and those receiving gold ratings in the ensemble contest were Hayden Alcorn, Martinez, Wilp, Mia Arrona, Jackson Charlton, Ryan Goss, Eli Reasoner and Garrison Redlin.
For eighth grade, those receiving gold meals were Estefani Perez, Nancy Baltazar, Zack Sturgill and Briana Gomez, while those receiving gold ratings in the ensemble contest were Perez, Alexis Richart, Andrea Pascual, Ashley Collins, Lyndsey Greenawalt, Anna Obermeyer, Tori Evans, Josh Hess, Brandon Martinez, Christian Cuevas, Angel Garcia, Briana Gomez, Nolan Keyes, Harley Koons, Cohl Moore, Savanna Moore, Shunsuke Takeuchi and Delaney Warren.
