Mary E. King, 95, of North Vernon, passed away on February 2, 2022, at Four Seasons in Columbus.

She was born on August 8, 1926, her mother’s birthday; and was the daughter of Ozzy and Ruby (Stigdon) Sharp. She married Malcolm Dwight King on February 1, 1945, at their family’s home in Scipio; he preceded her in death on May 5, 2014.

Mary was a graduate of Scipio High School. She was a homemaker and had worked for Cummins Engine Company in Columbus. Mary was a member of the Browns Corner Chapel in Scipio and was very active with her church family. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, being a seamstress and making clothes.

She is survived by her daughters, Marsha White and Kathy King, both of North Vernon, Diane (Mark) Spurgeon of Seymour, and Karen Burgess (JW) of New Albany; daughter-in-law, Beth King of Scipio; sister, Nadine Reed of Elizabethtown; grandchildren, Kathleen Stephens of Cullman, Alabama, Aaron (Kari) Spurgeon of Columbus, Allison (Brad) Johnson of Elizabethtown, Andrew (Leah) Spurgeon, Angela (David) Foster, and Danielle (Pete) Storm all of Seymour, Casey Patterson, Brad King and Rachel King (Mike), all of Scipio, and Matthew Patterson of North Vernon; and twenty-three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sons, Dennis L. and Thomas D. King; son in-law, John “JJ” White; grandson, Kristopher Stephens; brothers, Paul and Donald Sharp; and sisters, Kathleen Fillenworth and Velma Richard.

A funeral service for Mary will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at the Dove-Sharp &Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North Vernon. Visitation for family and friends will be from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in the Reddington Cemetery in Reddington, Indiana.

Memorials in honor of Mary may be made through the funeral home to Browns Corner Chapel, American Cancer Society and Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
