SEYMOUR

Billy Max Findley, age 87, a life-long resident of Seymour, Indiana, passed away January 26, 2022. He was born 1934, to the late Walter and Maude (Weasner) Findley in Seymour. On August 6, 1954, Bill married his childhood best friend and love of his life, the late Rosemary (Spray) Findley in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Bill graduated from Shields High School in 1952, and was offered a football scholarship to the University of Louisville, but the love of his life decided he should stay in Seymour. He was a member of the Rockford United Methodist Church, active in the men’s group and a faithful servant of our gracious Heavenly Father. Bill was drafted into the United States Army shortly after high school and was stationed in Fort Lewis, Washington. He loved to share his stories of time spent during his time of service with his family. After his discharge, Bill came back to Seymour where he and Rosemary settled into their life together. Bill first worked for his father, Walter S. Findley after his return, and then spent the remainder of his career working for Spray Sand and Gravel/Spray Aggregates, where he made many acquaintances and friendships throughout Jackson and Bartholomew counties. He retired in 1996 and transitioned into full-time devoted Papaw. He was an awesome father and adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bill loved wood-working, cheering on his favorite sports team, especially the Indianapolis Colts, and watching westerns. He enjoyed shopping at his favorite establishments, and was especially fond of checking out the latest TVs (the bigger the better).

Bill is survived by his son, Jon (Lisa) Findley of Burlington, Kentucky; daughter-in-law, Penny Findley-Seward; six grandchildren: Jill (Michael) Horne, Erin (Jason) Hallett, Carrie (Dan) Ross, Jordan Findley (fianc? Joseph Humbert), Joshua Findley (fianc? Ireland Hill), and Jalyn Findley; eight great-grandchildren Jaleigh (Wesley) Jewell, Jaleb Buck, Jayden Ross, Emmah Horne, Cheyenne Hallett, Justice Ross, Carter Hallett, and Jackson Ross. Bill is also survived by his sister, Marjorie “Dottie” Sentz of Seymour, Indiana.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rosemary; son, Jeffrey Lewis Findley; great-grandson Jeffrey Horne; siblings Opal Beineke, Gladys Lucas, Lawrence Findley, Eugene Findley, Robert Findley, Rosemary Mellencamp, Alma Findley, Betty Hudson, and Sue Smith.

Visitation will be Monday, January 31, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, with service beginning at 1:00 pm and graveside services immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Rockford United Methodist Church.
