The Seymour girls basketball team had a thrilling close to its regular-season on Thursday night at New Albany.

Fresh off losing to a last-second shot just this past Tuesday to Charlestown, the Owls had some late game magic themselves this time around.

With 1.3 seconds left to play, Grace Schrader inbounded the ball from the corner near the Owls’ own basket, she lobbed it up to Journee Brown, who took one dribble and was able to lay the ball up and in as the time expired to give Seymour a 48-46 victory.

“I give our kids a lot of credit, we hung in there today,” head coach Jason Longmeier said on the radio after the game. “To come in here tonight after Tuesday and get a win is good for our kids.”

Schrader led the Owls in scoring with 15 points, Kaylee Waskom scored 11, Brown had seven, Brooke Trinkle six, Kendall Sterling five and Greer Henry had four.

The win improved the Owls to 10-10 overall on the season.

These two teams will do it again just in a couple of days as the Owls and Bulldogs will meet in the first round of sectionals at Jeffersonville High School on Tuesday night. That game will be the first of two at Jeff on Tuesday, so it is slated to tipoff at 6 p.m.

“We’re definitely gonna have to make a few adjustments and be ready for a fight on Tuesday,” Longmeier said.

Brownstown gets road win

Maddy Hackman led the Braves in scoring with 21 points, Hannah Stahl scored 11, Emma Klinge five, Andrea Bair four, Kalee Borden two and Jenna Klosterman one.

“We got off to a good start, Maddy made some shots early,” head coach Brandon Allman said. “I thought we got contributions from everybody.”

The Braves finished the season with an overall record of 13-11 heading into sectionals.

Brownstown will play Owen Valley at Northview High School on Tuesday in the first round of sectionals. The game is slated to tipoff at 7 p.m.

Brownstown will go up to Northview on Saturday morning to get a practice in on the court before the game on Tuesday.
