A 33-year-old man faces criminal charges related to a brief standoff Saturday afternoon on Seymour’s north side.

Victor Hugo Figueroa of Seymour was arrested on preliminary charges of criminal recklessness, possession of methamphetamine and intimidation in connection to a report of a domestic disturbance in the 800 block of Pershing Street.

That report was received by a Seymour Police Department dispatcher at 1:18 p.m.

Officers responding to the call discovered that during the dispute, a handgun had been discharged by a male.

Upon arrival, SPD officers and members of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department were involved in a brief standoff with a man, later identified as Figueroa, before he was taken into custody. They also were able to determine the handgun was discharged into the floor of the residence, police reported.

There were no injuries as a result of the handgun discharge, and alcohol is believed to be a factor in this incident, police said.

Figueroa was booked into the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown at 5:45 p.m. Saturday.
