Quick starts in the first and third quarters propelled Seymour’s boys basketball team to a comfortable 56-29 victory at Charlestown on Friday night.

The Owls (6-3) opened the game with a 11-2 run to take early control, then used a 17-2 surge after halftime to seal the win. Seymour built its lead to 50-20 with seven minutes remaining in the fourth quarter before pulling its starters.

The win ends a two-game losing streak for the Owls and is their fifth straight victory over Charlestown (3-7). The last time Seymour held an opponent in the 20’s was in January 2020, when it held Martinsville to 25.

Marcus Brooks led the Owls with 18 points on efficient 8-for-9 shooting. Casey Regruth followed with 13 points and four rebounds.

Eli Meyer ended with eight points and five rebounds, while Bret Perry and Andrew Levine each scored seven points.

Off the bench, Josh Rennekamp pulled down five rebounds. Cory Robinson scored his first two points of the season and grabbed three rebounds.

Seymour figures to have a much tougher contest when it hosts Bloomington North (7-3) tonight.

Trinity defeated

Indianapolis Lutheran outscored Trinity Lutheran in each period to post a 61-42 win Friday night in the Bollinger Athletic Complex.

Jacob Conrad scored six points in the opening period but his Trinity teammates managed only one other basket and the Saints led 13-8.

The Saints outscored the home team 17-9 in the second quarter to take a 30-17 lead at the half.

After the Saints (7-1) scored the first basket of the third period, Trinity used a 7-0 run to close to 32-24. Mitchell Hackman scored five points for Trinity during the rally.

The Saints led 40-30 going into the final period. Indy shot 24-for-52 from the floor while Trinity was 15-for-48. Conrad topped the Cougars in rebounds with six.

Conrad topped the Cougars with 16 points and Hackman scored 11, while LJ Ward scored 13 and Tristan Smith 12 to lead the Saints.

Trinity (4-6) will travel to Henryville tonight.

Medora gets 2nd win

Braxton McCory scored a season-high 22 points to help Medora defeat Martinsville Tabernacle 54-41 on the Eagles’ floor Thursday night.

McCory made six field goals, including three 3-pointers, and was 7-for-12 in free throws. He also led the Hornets in rebounds with 10.

Shepard Earl added 15 points and had 7 rebounds. Dawson Cornett scored 9, Eli Sturgill 5, Jayden Brown 2 and Jenna Bowers had a free throw.

Sturgill and Cornett also had 3-pointers, and the Hornets were 19-for-21 in free throws and had 33 rebounds.

The Hornets played again Friday night at home against Dugger Union and suffered a 67-50 loss.

McCory poured in 24 points and Earl scored 13. Cornette scored nine, Bowers had three and Sturgill scored one.

Medora will play again at Bloomington Lighthouse on Monday night.
