SEYMOUR, INDIANA

Barbara Mae Bowdle Hammond, 93, of Seymour, Indiana passed away, January 4, 2022 at the Lutheran Community Home. She was born in Ross County, Ohio, the daughter of Virgil and Mary Beatty Bowdle on January 19, 1928. She graduated from Frankfort High School, class of 1946 in Frankfort, Ohio where she played the french horn in the high school band. She married Donald Hammond on November 24, 1948 in Chillicothe, Ohio.

She has been a member of First United Methodist Church in Seymour since 1955 as well as the Seymour Elks Club. In her earlier years, she worked at Excello Shirt Factory, Steinwedel’s Clothing Store and Stoners Women Clothing Store. She enjoyed traveling, sewing, knitting, crocheting and playing golf. She and her husband were very social and were blessed with many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, her parents, her brothers, Elza Bowdle and Eugene Bowdle and sisters, Virginia Sims and Betty Woods. She is survived by her son, Michael Hammond of Greensboro, NC, granddaughters, Regan Hammond and Cari Hammond, both of Atlanta, GA and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit with Barbara’s family from 9:00 to 11:00 am, Saturday, January 8, 2022 at Burkholder Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes, 419 N. Chestnut Street, Seymour, Indiana. The service will be at 11:00 am with Rev. Teresa Poole officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at Riverview Cemetery.
