Crothersville falls to Shawe Memorial in OT

The Crothersville boys basketball team went on the road on Monday night and suffered a close loss to Shawe Memorial in overtime 57-52.

The Tigers trailed 18-14 after the first quarter, but they responded with a massive second quarter.

Crothersville outscored Shawe 16-2 in the second frame to take a 30-20 lead.

Shawe won the third quarter by one, but Beau Napier gave Crothersville the last laugh, nailing a 3-pointer at the buzzer to put the Tigers up 37-28 heading into the fourth.

Crothersville couldn’t hang on in the fourth quarter, though. Shawe came storming back to tie things up at 45-45. Crothersville had a chance to win the game at the buzzer, but they couldn’t get a good shot off and the game went to overtime.

It was all home team in the extra period as Shawe went on to win the game 57-52.

Zach Helt led the Tigers with 22 points, Devin Morgan had 13, Logan O’Sullivan scored five, Damian Bowman four, Matthew Clouse and Napier each had three, and Adam Turner rounded out the scoring with two.

With the loss, the Tigers now fall to 1-7 on the season. The junior varsity team for Crothersville lost 39-33 on Monday as well.

Crothersville will play again on Thursday night at Borden. Junior varsity starts at 6 p.m. and with varsity to follow at 7:30 p.m.
