Mr. Eugene Franklin “Gene” Davenport, age 74, of Milton, Kentucky, and the son of Eugene Joseph and Margaret (Ducklo) Davenport, was born on April 9, 1947, in Cincinnati, Ohio. After graduating high school, he entered the United States Marines Corps where he faithfully served his country during the Vietnam Conflict. He was awarded two Purple Hearts and later retired from the Marine Corps and the Indiana National Guard after more than twenty years of service. He was united in marriage to the former Jill Ann Edwards on July 1, 2009 in Brownstown, Indiana.

Mr. Davenport was an entrepreneur. He operated a vinyl repair business in Indianapolis earlier in his civilian career. Later he became an Insurance Agent for Allstate Insurance and had offices in Beech Grove and Pendleton Pike area. Finally, he took a position as a Shelter Insurance Agent in Greenfield, IN. Shortly after, he was promoted to District Manager for the southern part of the state. He retired in 2009. He enjoyed his last 12 years working with his wife, Jill, in her Shelter Insurance Agency in Seymour.

In his spare time, he was an avid runner, former scuba diver, and enjoyed boating, Indianapolis Colts football, and socializing with his wife and friends. Throughout his lifetime, he had a great love for dogs especially his Great Dane, Sailor. He will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather who had an awesome love for his country and fellow man. When you stand for the American flag, remember his service. Mr. Davenport passed away on Saturday, December 18, 2021 at his home.

His life will be cherished by his wife of twelve years, Jill of Milton; his children: Kelly Davenport, Kimberly (Timothy) Cicenas, Gina Davenport, and Kristen (Benjamin) Daily; his mother, Margaret of Cincinnati, Ohio; his sisters: Pamela Godfrey of Chicago, Illinois, and Christine McGinnis (Steve) of Cincinnati; his grandchildren: Logan Cicenas, Carson Cicenas, Kyle Cicenas, and Ellison Daily. He was preceded in death by his father.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, December 27, 2021 at Lytle Welty Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel on Madison’s hilltop, with interment to follow in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison. Friends and family may call at Lytle Welty Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel from 11:00 AM until the time of the service on Monday.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Contributions may be made at the Lytle Welty Funeral Home or at lytlewelty.com.
