The Brownstown girls basketball team got back in the winners column after defeating Hauser at home on Tuesday night.

The Braves won the game 55-47.

Brownstown got off to a solid start in the first quarter, jumping out to a 19-6 lead.

Hauser slightly closed the gap heading into halftime as the Jets outscored the Braves 15-14 in the second quarter.

But Brownstown really put the game away in the third quarter, holding a 15-8 advantage in the third frame.

The Braves built a good enough cushion from the first and third quarters that even though Hauser won the fourth quarter 18-7, Brownstown was able to secure the eight-point victory.

Leading the way in scoring for the Braves was Maddy Hackman, who had 25 points on the night. In Brownstown’s previous performance against Silver Creek, Hackman was held to just two points, and head coach Brandon Allman said they needed to do a better job of getting Hackman more looks.

That was the case Tuesday as Hackman shot 47 percent from the field, including five 3-pointers.

Kalee Borden was the other double-digit scorer for the Braves with 12 points. It capped off a double-double performance for Borden as she also finished the game with 11 rebounds.

Other scorers for the Braves were Emma Klinge with seven points, Jenna Klosterman and Hannah Stahl each had four points, and Andrea Bair added in three points.

The Braves out-rebounded the Jets 37-29 and slightly won the turnover battle with 13 to Hauser’s 14. Brownstown also slightly won the assist category as well 11-10.

It was a nice bounce back win for Brownstown after the Braves were just a couple plays short of upsetting No. 2-ranked Silver Creek last Saturday.

With the win, Brownstown improves to 5-8 on the season. The Braves will get a little over a week off before competing in the Eastern Greene Tournament on Dec. 28 where they will play games against Loogootee at 11:15 a.m. and Southwestern (Hanover) at 2:45 p.m.
