Two people were arrested Monday afternoon on numerous charges following a vehicle pursuit that spanned three counties, police report.

The incident that led to the arrests of Otha Thomas Bryant, 38, of Scottsburg and Rachel Violet Taylor Fagan, 28, of Freetown started at approximately 3 p.m. when Indiana State Police Trooper Randel Miller attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a white Nissan passenger car on Interstate 65 northbound near the 53 mile marker near Seymour.

The vehicle, driven by Bryant, fled from Miller at a high rate of speed, according to a news release from Sgt. Stephen Wheeles, public information officer for the Versailles Post.

Bryant exited I-65 at the 55 mile marker onto northbound State Road 11 and drove north into Bartholomew County before eventually traveling eastbound, crossing U.S. 31 and entering Jennings County, Wheeles said.

Bryant then drove on numerous county roads in the area, crossing U.S. 31 two additional times, Wheeles said. During the pursuit, multiple troopers from the Versailles Post and officers from other area police departments assisted.

The vehicle eventually became disabled and came to a stop on County Road 1000W in northwest Jennings County, and Bryant and Fagan were both taken into custody without further incident.

During a search of the vehicle, troopers located suspected methamphetamine, Wheeles said.

Bryant was arrested on charges of resisting law enforcement in a vehicle, possession of methamphetamine, reckless driving, criminal recklessness with a vehicle and driving while suspended with a prior suspension within 10 years.

He also was wanted on a Jackson Circuit Court warrant for theft of a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, possession of a hypodermic syringe or needle and driving while suspended with a prior suspension with 10 years and a Jackson Superior Court I warrant for driving while suspended with a prior suspension within 10 years.

Fagan was arrested on charges of resisting law enforcement in a vehicle and possession of methamphetamine. She also was wanted on a Washington County warrant.

Both Bryant and Fagan were taken to the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown, where they were incarcerated pending their initial appearances in court.

Officers with the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department, Jackson County Sheriff’s Department and Jennings County Sheriff’s Department assisted in the pursuit and arrests of Bryant and Fagan.
