Compassionate Friends plan candle lighting ceremony

On Dec. 12, the Compassionate Friends Worldwide Candle Lighting will unite family and friends around the world in lighting candles to honor the memories of their sons, daughters, brothers and sisters and grandchildren who have died.

The Southern Indiana Chapter will be hosting the annual event at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 12 at Vienna Baptist Church, 11 W. Leota Road, Scottsburg.

All parents, grandparents, family members and friends are invited to attend and are being asked to bring a framed picture or something of remembrance of your child to be placed on the memory table. Those who are able also are being asked bring a snack to share.

Those who have a Compassionate Friends votive are asked to bring it, as well. If you do not have one, the chapter will provide one. The program will feature poems, music, candlelight, refreshments and social time.

Once all candles are lit, there will be a virtual wave of light throughout the world to commemorate and honor the memory of all children gone too soon.

The Compassionate Friends Worldwide Candle Lighting started in the United States in 1997 as a small internet observance but has since grown in numbers as word has spread throughout the world.
