Penny war to benefit Tuskegee Airmen memorial

The Seymour Middle School Sixth Grade Center is having a penny war to raise money for the Tuskegee Airmen memorial at Freeman Field.

To kick off the fundraiser, Tim Molinari visited the school Nov. 8 to speak to students during each of the lunch periods.

He spoke about the Freeman Field Mutiny and the role many brave Tuskegee Airmen played in attempting to desegregate the Freeman Field officers club during World War II.

Molinari also described the plans for the addition of life-sized statues to the current memorial as well as the planned arrival of the CAF RISE ABOVE Traveling Exhibit in October 2022.

Students also learned about the Tuskegee Airmen and the Freeman Field Mutiny in the sixth grade social studies classes last week. These lessons coincided with the Veterans Day program Nov. 11 at Gaiser Park and the continuation of the Tuskegee Airmen memorial fundraiser.
